HEZEKIAH WALKER

Better

Unmistakably Hezekiah Walker’s signature sound has set an International standard in Gospel music. Walker, the multi GRAMMY® Award-winning, newly inducted Gospel Music Hall of Famer, continues to uplift the masses from far and wide with inspirational songs that focus on maintaining faith and overcoming life's daunting moments through his current release "Azusa The Next Generation 2 - Better."
As the 15th album of his career, this release has a relevant fresh feel with impeccable tracks produced by Walker and the multi-award winning Donald Lawrence. Walker presents the Azusa Choir along with musicians from across the world.
"Better," the first single, which is currently #4 on this week's Billboard Gospel Music Charts, is a motivating and inspiring song that has impacted both Gospel and Urban formats. It also was named "Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year" at the 48th Annual Dove Awards.
Walker felt compelled to record the song after studying the Bible, where he found an impactful scripture in Ecclesiastes 7:8 that helped him overcome moments of uncertainty and to feel comfortable about his present situation knowing that the end is near and Better is coming. Once recorded, the uplifting and inspirational song compelled Walker to spread this message across the world.

He traveled from his home city of New York across the Atlantic Ocean to film the video for "Better" in Italy, Paris France, Japan and Africa. No matter the country, city or state, Walker wants to break through the racial and language barriers in an aggressive intent to display a celebration of faithful endurance.

The release of "Azusa The Next Generation 2 - Better" continues the movement of the Azusa Street revival that originated in Los Angeles California. It started in 1906 as a big revival that broke out all over the world. "Azusa The Next Generation 2 - "Better" is infused with an urban contemporary sound with a down home gospel feel. In each song, Walker is striving to implement hope into humanity.
He not only wants to inspire churchgoers, but also nonbelievers in God Is For Me.

"A lot of people feel like God doesn't love them or hate them or is not concerned about them," Walker said. "You'll be surprised by the people who are afraid to come to church, because they feel like the church is going to burn up and fall down if they do. But I want to show that God is for you."

In a YOLO (You Only Live Once) generation, Walker puts the focus back on another life _ the afterlife. Instead of just pursuing a fruitful life on earth, he reminds listeners on "Living To Live Again" that the end goal is to ultimately reach heaven.
"We're so busy living for today, but we have forgotten that there is a tomorrow," he said. "We are living to live again. We're not going to church just to be better people. We're not turning our lives over to Christ to live a fabulous life on earth. But there is life after death. We believe in heaven. We believe that one day we are going where Jesus is.
"I wanted to put that back into the hearts and minds of people.
"Holding On," encourages the listener to fight through, despite the tribulations.
"I could have turned to a life of crime, drugs or whatever," he said. "But I remembered what my mom told me. She said, 'make sure you hold on to your faith!'
"People may leave you but God will never leave you. I held on to those words and, after all these years, He has never forsaken me nor has He ever turned His back on me. That's my encouragement to everyone, hold on because it will get BETTER."

2016 marks 30 years in the music industry for Walker. He has earned multiple music awards and two GRAMMYS® for Best Gospel Album for "Live in Atlanta at Morehouse College" in 1994 and "Love is Live!" in 2001.
Walker was recently inducted into the Gospel Music Associations Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
"It's a major accomplishment," said Walker, who is also known as Hez to friends and family.

The Festival of Praise Tour 2016 is bigger and better than ever! The tour was an enormous success last year and this year, this National Tour is scheduled to run from October 5-December 4, 2016 as a 50+ city tour!
It makes its way to Atlanta at the Fox Theatre on October 29.

The fantastic tour features Multiple Grammy, Stellar, BET Award Winning Artists Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, Israel Houghton, Karen Clark Sheard, Atlanta's Regina Belle and Casey J, Comedian Earthquake hosts.

Hezekiah Walker sat down for a few minutes to talk about the tour.

Q: So, like Fred and Israel, you decided to come back for Festival of Praise 2016. Why did you decided to be on the show again?

A: I had to come back. It was phenomenal last year. Last year was just a great time for me to really be with Fred again after so many years. To travel around to so many different cities, they are still like, "We want Fred Hammond."
Its just amazing to see the collaboration and to see the excitement on everyone's faces. So, when I got the phone call, it was like, "Yes!"

When I heard that Earthquake was on the show, it was amazing. As a matter of fact, we used to do drive time together in New York City. He had a show at my radio station. He was on one side doing his thing and I was on the other side doing gospel. So, it's going to be good to be back with him.

Last year, when people came, on some faces you saw, they didn't now what to expect. And with others, you saw, "I know what Fred and Hezekiah and everybody can do. And that was exciting for me as well.
But, those who did not come, they have to come with great expectations. The word is out. You have to show up.

Q: What do you hope people leave the show with?

A: I want them to walk away with hope, feeling like "I can do this and I can do better. That's what gospel music is all about, bringing everybody together with one mind, one purpose, one heart.
